Esther Cañadas, a ’90s Muse

Seriously, Angelina Jolie copped her steez! Esther Cañadas was the business back in the ’90s. She captivated in Donna Karan’s DKNY ads – she could play fierce, feminine or mysterious. Just wish she was still around in fashion…

Jimmy Choo Channels David LaChapelle

Campaign images for Jimmy Choo’s first fragrance are out. Shot by Inez van Lamsweerde and Vinoodh Matadin, the ads star the brand’s own Chief Creative Officer Tamara Mellon. I like the ad – the wood panel backdrop, the similarly patterned dress and bottle, the erogenous collar bone emphasis. But those were afterthoughts. My first reaction: Hey, that’s kinda like David LaChapelle’s 2001 portrait of Angelina Jolie!

His work has certainly been “inspiring” others of late (remember, he’s suing Rihanna for directly deriving his imagery in her “S+M” music video). As I noted before in J.Crew Pawns Prada (pictured above), these things happen all the time in fashion art direction…maybe even unknowingly.
