From where I ride.
A spectacular day and turnout for the Mermaid Parade in Coney Island this year. We rode from The Bowery to Williamsburg to Coney Island and made it just in time to catch the Parade in full swing.

Unicorn, taking five.

Unicorn, back on the scene.

Happy merman!

I hadn’t been to Coney Island in a while, and I forgot how much I love the old school signs and awnings there. One of my instagram followers pointed out the ‘lollipop’ misspelling in the sign above. I can only imagine how many years it’s been like that.

The Diamond is one of those special little places you don’t want anyone else to know about. They just get it.

I’ve been missing Brooklyn big time. Between my work and personal lives converging here on the Bowery, I don’t get to the better borough as often. This weekend, I hit every neighborhood, from Carroll Gardens and Park Slope to Fort Greene, Clinton Hill and Williamsburg. And it was invigorating.
Definitely the summer of the ferry….
Have an old friend in town from Melbourne. Sometimes it’s nice to experience a familiar scene through a visitor’s eyes. Here’s Tom, taking in sunset on the Williamsburg waterfront…
Finally: my first long Brooklyn bike ride of the summer! I rode to Red Hook and hit my longtime favorite joint Hope & Anchor. I love their vibe, their grub and especially their Sailor Jerry bathroom collages – particularly significant because one of my favorite companies, Quaker City Mercantile, owns the rights to Sailor Jerry. QCM is one of the coolest companies in Philly (I’ve written about them here) and they’ve maintained the integrity of Sailor Jerry’s name while bringing more attention to his life and work as an artist. Holla.
Mentioned earlier, my visit to the Brooklyn Botanical Garden renewed my love for the tulip more than that of the cherry blossom. I can’t help myself! There are so many glorious colors and subtle differences in formation. Included are some of the photos I snapped this weekend. I don’t have a fancy camera, but thought I’d share nonetheless.

Hanami at the Brooklyn Botanical Garden is a month-long celebration from April 2 to May 1 that celebrates the Japanese cultural tradition of enjoying each moment of the cherry blossom season. It culminates in the two-day Sakura Matsuri cherry blossom festival in which visitors can pay tribute to and enjoy traditional and contemporary Japanese culture.

These rings were something else! Spotted this weekend at the Brooklyn Flea in my beloved Fort Greene.
